Cat Goes Fishing is a video game in which the player, as a cat, fishes for a variety of species. The game world is divided into distinct regions based on depth and distance from the shore, with different regions containing different fish. The player begins the game in The Bay, the area closest to shore, and can progress to other areas including the Open Sea, Coral Reef, Drop-Off, The Distant Ocean, Rocky Plateau, Kelp Plateau, and The Furthest Ocean. Each area presents different challenges and opportunities for the player, with the difficulty of individual catches increasing the further the player travels from shore.

What You'll Learn
The Bay
In addition to the common species, The Bay also hosts a variety of other fish, including the Swooper, Roundfin, Snobfish, Gallina, Kingfish, Tangfin, Grumper, Queenfish, Sibilfin, Gawker, Leofish, Bullfish, Seraph, Turgeon, Brimble, Felish, and Cowfish.
The most notable Huge fish in The Bay is the Shark, an aggressive species that will grab the fishing line and drag it out to sea. It is found lower down, just above the point where the water turns dark.

The Open Sea
Some of the fish that can be found in the Open Sea include:
- Seraphs: These fish are streamlined and fast, and can be found zooming around offshore.
- Grumpers: Aggressive yellow fish found in the more open ocean parts of the map. They have a large aggro range and are very fast, so players will need to be quick to catch them.
- Beakfish: Purple fish that can be found between the open ocean and offshore areas, in the mid-ocean range. They are usually found underneath the area where the furthest Cowfish are located.
- Leofish: Purple-striped fish found to the right of the furthest set of Cowfish, just above the lower mid-ocean range. They are mostly stationary, so they should be easy to spot and catch.
- Bullfish: Bullfish patrol just under the player's boat in a back-and-forth pattern. This makes them very easy to catch, as players can simply drop their line and wait for them to bite.
- Sibilfin: Fast, pink fish found between the open ocean and offshore areas, always being chased by a large, red Turgeon. They can be difficult to catch undamaged due to the pursuing Turgeon, but with a fast reel and medium bait, players should be able to manage it.
- Sourfish: Found anywhere from the Open Ocean to the edge of the map, typically in shallow to mid-ocean areas. They have a huge aggro range, making them easy to find.

The Coral Reef
The reef itself is a small raised area on top of the coral wall, easily recognised by its dense and colourful corals. The western edge of the coral reef forms a cliff face known as the reef wall, which gradually descends into the chasm. This reef wall separates the Coral Reef from the Open Ocean, creating an underwater escarpment that adds to the unique geography of this zone.
One of the notable features of the Coral Reef is the coral basin, located directly east of the reef. This large and deep basin is home to a variety of reef fish, including some unusual varieties found nowhere else. In the floor of the basin lies a narrow opening that leads to the coral basin caves, a network of small caves inhabited by rare and expensive fish, such as the Crystalfish.

The Drop-Off
The largest cave in the Drop-Off, and in the game, is the Empty Cave. This cave is home to only a few fish species, including Glaciers and Swishers. The Empty Cave connects to other caves in the Drop-Off, including the Coral Caves to the west and Mamo's Den to the east. Mamo's Den is a cave found in the centre of the Drop-Off, where the Mamo, a large fish, resides. To catch the Mamo, players must first lure the Dragon into the cave and pick up its egg, which the Mamo is protecting. The Dragon will only enter the cave if players disable all sonar abilities.
Other caves in the Drop-Off include a small cave where the Germ, a strange fish found in one of the deepest caves in the game, resides. There is also a large cave where only the Germ and a few Carvers are found.

The Distant Ocean
The Silo, also known as the Open Ocean or Distant Ocean, is a deep area of water beyond The Drop-Off. On the seafloor lies the entrance to a nuclear silo, which acts as a sonar jammer, and the surrounding waters are heavily irradiated, causing certain fish to mutate.
Additionally, the Stalker, a long purple and white-striped fish, can sometimes be found in the Distant Ocean. To catch the Stalker, players must first catch the fish it is following.

Frequently asked questions
The Cat Goes Fishing map is divided into distinct regions based on depth and distance from the shore. The regions include The Bay, The Open Sea, The Coral Reef, The Drop-Off, The Silo (also known as the Open Ocean or Distant Ocean), The Plateau, and The Furthest Ocean. Each region contains different types of fish, with the difficulty of individual catches increasing as the player moves further from the shore.
The Coral Reef region is home to many rare and unique fish species not typically found closer to the shore, such as the Hamahed, Swaller, and Yellowjack. It is separated from the Open Ocean by an underwater cliff known as the reef wall.
The Drop-Off region is located east of the Coral Reef and is separated from it by a big cave known as "The Empty Cave." This area has relatively fewer fish, and it is primarily where the Dragon can be found.
The Silo, also known as the Open Ocean or Distant Ocean, is a deep area of open water beyond The Drop-Off. This region has been heavily irradiated, and certain fish are starting to develop mutations. Some of the odd fish that can be found here include the Chaw, Lampis, and the eerie Abyssal.
